Having fun out and about – for free!
Here at Fun, Free and Frugal we are all about enjoying life while saving money. So let’s look some of the ways of having fun out and about – for free!
Attractions
There are many free public visitor attractions and spaces in the UK that you can visit. Think parks, beaches, rivers, canals, towns, villages, country walks, beauty spots, hills and valleys. The list is endless, and some of the most amazing places are just waiting to be discovered. Which ones are on your doorstep?
Indoors
There are numerous museums, exhibitions and galleries that offer free admission too. These may be free 24/7, or restricted to specific age groups or times of the year. Try searching ‘free art galleries’ or ‘free museums near me’ to find out what’s available near you.
Exercise!
Get outside to exercise! Whether you have a bicycle, skateboard or prefer to walk or run, get outside and get some exercise. The endorphins released from exercise will be a real mood booster, and you might discover something new and interesting along the way! It doesn’t need to be hard work – walking quickly for 30-60 minutes will get your heart rate up and your blood pumping. Be sure to seek medical advice before starting any new strenuous physical exercise.
Children
If you are a parent or a grandparent, there are plenty of ways to keep the kids occupied outside on a budget. Visit your local nature trail, have a picnic in the park, try a (new) local playground, or combine them all and have some fun family days out! If you’ve planned a day trip to the seaside, plan ahead to keep your kids entertained!
Friends and family
Why not make arrangements to catch up with someone that you haven’t seen for a while? It’s great to reconnect with family and friends, and you can update each other on what’s been happening in your life. Sometimes those spur of the moment catch ups are the best kinds of get-togethers, and reconnecting can boost your mood too.
Of course, you can combine all of these ideas in to a full day out. Meet a friend for a walk or bike ride, have a catch-up, stop off and admire the view or visit a gallery, a new town, or visit a park. With a little imagination you can enjoy a great day out, experience a true mood boost and save money, all at the same time!
